Lumpia
What is Lumpia?
Lumpia, or a crispy, hand rolled Filipino spring roll filled with beef, chicken, or veggies, is one of the most beloved Filipino appetizers. Known for its crunchy exterior and savory filling, lumpia is the perfect dish for both people who already love Filipino food and people who have never tried it before. This dish also has a rich history, evolving from Chinese spring rolls brought to the Philippines by Hokkien traders hundreds of years ago. Its name comes from the Hokkien word lun pia, meaning “soft pastry”. Today, lumpia is a major part of Filipino culture and enjoyed by people around the world and served at holidays and gatherings as a finger food.
Types of Lumpia:
Lumpia is not only delicious, but incredibly versatile too, whether you prefer classic Filipino flavors, vegetarian options, or trying unique flavors. With such a wide variety of filling choices, there is a type of lumpia for nearly every palette and dietary preference. Kuya’s Cooking offers several kinds of lumpia, with some of the most popular being Lumpiang Shanghai, featuring a savory beef filling, as well as our flavorful veggie lumpia. We also offer specialty flavors, such as adobo lumpia (chicken or pork simmered in a savory soy glaze), sisig lumpia (chopped chicken or pork with onions and chili peppers), and barbeque chicken or pork lumpia.
Lumpia at Your Event:
Lumpia is an easy, mess-free finger food, which makes it the perfect appetizer for your wedding, graduation, corporate event, or celebration. It is a favorite dish for both Filipino and non-Filipino guests alike, and even kids love it! As a general catering guideline, we recommend ordering about 1-2 trays of lumpia per 10-20 guests, depending on the event. Lumpia is often paired with complementary Filipino dishes such as adobo or pancit bihon, a sautéed noodle dish with vegetables. Together, these dishes create a catering spread your guests are sure to remember.
